This hat has to be the easiest and quickest crochet hat you will ever make. I’m talking 15 minutes! (cue gasps).
You’ll need a super chunky weight yarn and a 12mm hook. I used a Lion Brand yarn in Wichita Tweed to match the jumper I made for my daughter.
Free children’s chunky crochet hat pattern:
This pattern will suit children aged 2-4, but I’ll indicate where you can add an increase if you want to make the hat a little bigger.
To start, ch 6 and join with a sl st to make a ring
Round 1: ch 2 and work 7 dc into the ring, join with a sl st (8)
Round 3: ch 2 and work 1 dc into the same st, work 2 dc into every st around, join with a sl st (16)
Round 4: ch 2 and work 1 dc into the same st, *work 1 dc into the next st and 2 dc into the next st* around, join with a sl st (24)
Note: if you want to make a larger hat continue to add rounds of increases here following the above pattern. For example, the next round of increases would be *2 dc into the next st, 1 dc into the next 2 st* around)
Round 5 – 10: ch 2 and work 1 dc into each st around (24)
Fasten off and work in your loose ends.
